BOUGHT A VEHICLE WITHOUT A TITLE?

What reason did the seller provide you for not providing you with a title to the vehicle you are buying ? Regardless of the reason, if you purchased a vehicle without a title, the only time you can expect to not get the title is if THERE IS A LIEN (you are getting the vehicle financed) on the vehicle. Before you consider buying a vehicle without a title, think about the following consequences:

  1. The vehicle could be STOLEN: the person who sold you the vehicle, may not be the actual owner, and could in fact sell or "flip" a vehicle that they aren't the owner's of, for quick cash.

  2. The vehicle could have a LIEN on it: the seller may not provide you with the title because they don't have a clear title (title without a lien)... The lienholder can come forward and repo or reclaim the vehicle that you have, catching you off guard.. Even though you have purchased the vehicle, you aren't the actual owner and the lienholder's customer, you have no contract with them, so the lienholder has every right to seize the vehicle

  3. The vehicle could be SALVAGED: the seller can conceal the condition of the vehicle by not providing you with a title, as a salvage brand would be visible on the title. Essentially, even if the vehicle appears to have little to no damage, you may not know if you are buying a a salvage vehicle or not.

If you believe you are getting a great deal and you must buy that vehicle right away (even though there is no title) or you are getting your dream car... make sure you consider the financial costs as well as time that's on the table when you buy a vehicle without a title? Are you willing to go through the title process, are you able to pack patience and worst case if the vehicle is stolen, has a lien on it or a salvage brand, are you willing to deal with the consequences?
