AUTO TITLE SKIPPING

A COSTLY MISTAKE

So you bought your car at an unbelievable price? Before handing over the money , did you inspect the title OR DID YOU NOT RECEIVE A TITLE? My hope for you is that you received a title and a legal one at that! If you didn't receive a title from the seller (assuming you paid cash) or you received a title assigned to multiple parties, chances are you are in a skipped auto title situation!

What is skipped auto title situation? This happens in one of two ways:

  1. The person selling you the vehicle didn't provide you a a title (even though you paid cash on the spot to them). You are fed excuses that they lost the title, someone gave the vehicle to them and didn't give them a title.. and so on. The only good thing you may receive from them is that they provided you with a bill of sale.

  1. In the case of where an vehicle title is present, you are given the title, but the person selling you vehicle and giving you the title isn't the "owner" shown on the front of the title, but instead the owner on the front of the title, may have signed off to another party, who signed the title over to someone else and this could go on and on. Unfortunately the title has been reassigned over multiple times.

When it comes to auto title skipping, the party receiving the vehicle either doesn't have a title at all (which will cause the them to have problems proving ownership) or an improper title is present with multiple names on the reassignment sections (INDIVIDUALS) or maybe one of the parties on the reassignment section purchased from a dealer or auction and chose not to get the vehicle titled in their name. NOTE: A word of CAUTION, only legitimate auto dealers can reassign titles from one dealer to the next or from themselves to their buyer/customer, individuals can't do this.

In essence, auto title skipping is illegal because it deflects from who the owner of the vehicle actually is and when it comes to titling matters the following risks are present (the vehicle could be stolen, the vehicle could have a lien on it and or the vehicle could be salvage)!
